How much does it cost?
All Career Academies sign a membership agreement on commencement of their Year of Planning and pay a Year of Planning fee of £1,500 + VAT.
Once succesfully affiliated to Career Academies UK, they pay an annual fee based on the number of students enrolled on a Career Academy programme of £100 + VAT per student per year, with a minimum charge of £1000 per year.
All schools and colleges that run Career Academy programmes benefit from regular networking meetings for teachers, events for students, support for administrative procedures such as DBS checking of volunteers, an annual conference for Career Academy teams and the account management of large employers by Career Academies UK's national team.
Career Academies aren't for everyone. They're not cheap to run, in terms of the financial commitment needed, the cost of the Career Academy team and time required to get the project off the ground or the outlay on the essential footwork that has to be undertaken to develop and maintain vital partnerships. Being part of a national network brings with it the responsibility of keeping up with administration, playing a full and active role in the movement and ensuring that relationships with all partners, particularly employers, are kept vibrant and energetic.
The rewards, however, can be considerable. Successful Career Academies report on the raised aspirations of their students and teachers, increased progression rates to higher education, along with innovative spin-offs in terms of interdepartmental working and employer engagement in other areas of the school or college.
